I'm not sure what genre this would be...either country or singer/songwriter...Tells the story of a soldier named Sam Stone and the life he lived upon returning home...

We lost John Prine two years ago to Covid. John Prine has written a host of songs, many that crossed genres. John Denver, Johnny Cash, Miranda Lambert, Bonnie Raiit, George Strait, Nancy Griffith, Kris Kristofferson, Vince Gill and Susan Tedeschi have all had covers and/or hits with Prine's music. Sam Stone is one of his greatest songs. Paradise and Angel From Montgomery are among the most popular.

It was folk when it came out back in the 70s. "There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes"
