Chris LeDoux is the ultimate Cowboy Singer. He is the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) bareback world champion (bronc riding, not bull) in 1976. He started recording his own music in the early 1970's and selling it out of the back of his trunk on the rodeo circuit to all of the other cowboys, or anyone else that he could get to buy it. He died of cancer in 2005 at age 56. He was inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 2006.
