It looks like based on the votes you will do this song at some point. When you do, I suggest the live version on the CMA awards in 2001. I would even watch the longer version when the host introducing it. Keep in mind this was the first performance of the song shortly after 9/11.
Very powerful song. I was finishing up a college degree when 9/11 happened. When Alan Jackson sang this song, live on TV, it rocked the country. Yes, 9/11 was one of the darkest days in American history, but the times immediately following made me so proud of my country. We all got along, we prayed, hugged, and loved each other.
For me, this song was THE perfect example of how someone (Alan Jackson) took the words to describe all the crazy emotions that we all felt at this horrible, tragic time but couldn't articulate and put them into a beautiful, honest and heartfelt song. It gets me every time I hear it, still to this day.
Still hits me nearly twenty years later. I remember where I was when the world stopped turning. And I was five. This song is definitely one you should hear at least once if you believe you hate country.
