This is the last song of their concept album "Operation: Mindcrime" The album is about a heroin addict "Nikki" who gets manipulated and brainwashed (MK Ultra style) into becoming an assassin--The word "mindcrime" is his trigger word. He befriends a nun, Sister Mary, and falls in love with her. His handler (Dr. X) becomes suspicious of Sister Mary and orders him to kill her. He is unable and unwilling to complete the order, but Mary winds up dead anyway. He wakes up in a mental hospital unable to recognize himself in the mirror. Its truly epic.

Operation: Mindcrime tour May 1989 first time I saw them live. Outdoors, Starlight Bowl Balboa Park San Diego. I saw plays there. It's in the landing path of the airport. The actors would freeze when planes landed. Not Geoff Tate. You could hear him over the planes! Also, Queen of the Reich and Take Hold of the Flame were the ENCORE songs! Imagine that voice after an entire concert. You should do the entire Operation: Mindcrime. Epic concept album
