You love the storytelling of country music, and even though Kelly isn’t a country singer she was born & raised in Texas listening to country so she often tells great detailed stories in her lyrics. This song was written when she was 16 and it’s about the breakup/divorce if her parents when she was a little girl + the impact it had on her to grow up in a broken home with a father who abandoned her & a mother who often wasn’t as emotionally available to the kids as they needed her to be in those days. It’s a powerful song with powerful lyrics and powerful vocals, and the video itself beautifully tells the song’s story with visuals.
