Jewel is the daughter of Atz Kilcher from Discovery Channel's Alaska: the Last Frontier. Jewel's grandparents are immigrants from Switzerland by way of Germany and moved to Alaska in 1940 and was given 160 acres of federal land to homestead. Jewel was raised there by her dad after her mother left when Jewel was 8 years old. Jewel gives homage to her dad and grandparents in this song saying, "I am the product of their sacrifice. I am the accumulation of the dreams of generations
And their stories live in me like holy water. I am my father's daughter". Her official video is especially good, with Dolly Parton singing the 2nd verse.
